In reply to your letter of even date we presume you
refer to lir. ▼. ▲. Hannibal but we wish to point out that this gentleman has never been actually in our employ. He was established in London for many years as ▼. A. Hannibal & Co. and bought con- -siderably from us and when a few years ago he decided to come out! and look after his om affairs, his business was left in the hands of Messrs. Eastwood and Holt the well know Mincing Lane Brokers who still carry on the W. A. H. & Co. business and from which Mr. Hannibal derives an income. Owing to the circumstances that have arisen Mr. Hannibal decided to protect his interests and those of his home buyers by starting himself and as Mr. Wendt is desirous of retiring from China as soon as he has permission to leave Mr. Hamibal will take over and wind up the old concern and the firm will be entirely British.
Should any further explmations or proofs be required we shall be happy to afford the same.
We are etc.
(sd.) Wendt & Co.
The Honourable
The Colonial Secretary,
